When weaving the material for Barefoot Handwoven Jackets, the woven material comes off the loom and then is washed; cotton in a hot washer and dryer, wool and silk in a warm gentle cycle with conditioning shampoo and hung to dry. This shrinks the fabric approximately 26%. Only then does the cutting, serging and sewing proceed.

We are now using FireWorks copper enameled buttons in a buttonhole that is in a seam. It also has roll-up cuffs that are very adjustable, sturdy but soft twill pockets and a new mandarin style collar.
Washing by hand with mild liquid soap (cotton) or shampoo and conditioner (wools) is possible and cotton jackets can even be fluffed inside out in the dryer.
